PETALING JAYA: Barisan Nasional component parties in Negri Sembilan appear to be at odds after Seremban Umno Youth chief Zool Amali Hussein declared on Friday (May 7) that his wing was cutting ties with MCA in the state. Rasah MCA secretary Ng Kian Nam later said Zool s remarks were disrespectful towards MCA and that the wing s decision to sever ties was not in line with Barisan s stance. Zool s remarks are insensitive and do not take into account the feelings of the Chinese community in Negri, he told The Star on Saturday (May 8). Ng said the Chinese community comprised 23.2% or 215,000 of the total state population and Barisan had traditionally entrusted MCA to contest two seats (Rasah and Seremban) out of the eight in Negri as these two seats have the most Chinese residents. ....
THE Caring School programme, which was shelved in 2018, was relaunched on Feb 22 under the name Caring School Programme 2.0. The programme will involve concepts and activities based on the five areas of the Caring School plan - environment, culture, service, management and teaching. At the virtual launch ceremony, Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon (pic) said he hopes the programme can be promoted in all Malaysian primary schools, and help accelerate the implementation of the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2025. Dr Mah said that the programme which emphasises loving and caring education, is especially needed during the Covid-19 pandemic. It should be adopted in a child’s home-based learning and life, he added. ....

The Deputy Education Minister described the revival as “good news” for the 400 Chinese schools that used to take part in the programme, the board of governors concerned and parents and teachers before it was halted in 2018. The programme was initially aimed at assisting pupils who were not academically-inclined to make their way into secondary school, in a bid to reduce the dropout rate at Chinese schools. Dr Mah, who is also MCA deputy president, said he had met the programme committee on Jan 8 to discuss the operation model for the programme. ....
