The Council on Aging of Central Oregon invites you to join the Peak Posse group of adventure hikers. They've set up a local fundraiser to address loneliness, hunger and isolation among older adults in Central Oregon. Anyone can purchase a fun commemorative Eagles Nest 2021 patch and all proceeds will go to the Council on Aging's programs and services in Central Oregon. "Social isolation and loneliness are big risk factors in our older adult population," said Susan Rotella, executive director of the Council on Aging. "And with the COVID-19 pandemic, we have all seen first-hand the challenge that many seniors face behind closed doors for years on end. This effort by Peak Posse members is inspiring and we are grateful for their fundraising effort so we can better support the growing number of Central Oregon seniors in need." The money will be used to expand the agency's Caring Connections program to adults 60+ in Jefferson and Crook Counties. Isolation and loneliness have long been recognized problems in the older adult population. More than one third of adults over age 45 report being lonely (Wilson & Moulton, 2010), equating to over 42 million older adults who experience chronic loneliness. The COVID-19 pandemic has only exacerbated an already difficult situation for our older adult neighbors, friends, and family members who spent a lot of time this past year restricted to their homes. Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation helps Meals on Wheels in Deschutes County BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) The Council on Aging of Central Oregon announced Thursday that the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation has awarded a $12,000 grant for Meals on Wheels programming in Deschutes County.
