The survey of 995 unpaid carers by Marie Curie also found people had difficulties getting personal care and respite nursing for loved ones. Figures show the number of people dying at home rose by 42% in the past year. The government said it had taken action to support unpaid carers. Nearly two-thirds of carers surveyed by the charity said their loved one did not get all the pain relief they needed when they were dying. ....

With vaccines on the way, there is a proverbial light at the end of the tunnel. However, a rising tide doesn’t always lift all boats. So, we must ensure our most at-risk workers, vulnerable populations, and communities that have suffered and lost the most are safe and healthy and able to find work, keep a roof over their heads, and build a brighter future. Read Article To the Editor: It has been one of my greatest pleasures this past 14 months (since November 2019) to work with the women of the Repant! Tote group and I have volunteered to share a bit about how it began, and what the fruits of our labor have been. In addition to the incredible bond that these women have formed, we have created and sewn more than 425 custom totes from up-cycled men’s slacks, decorated with t-shirts, fabric scraps, and various other textiles. The concept was created by District Exchange volunteer Susan Lowe of Albany, with the support of Maryvonne Wheeler. After doing considerable research as to how many thousands of pounds of cast-off clothing are buried in landfills throughout the United States each year, along with the fact that the Town of Bethel had been considering banning single use plastic bags, Sue and Maryvonne thought this project would have a positive environmental and community impact. ....
