Letters to the Editor for July 11 Bucks County Courier Times Chalfont’s new developments impact taxes The finance committee of Chalfont Borough Council will soon begin its review and debate of next year’s budget and that discussion will include whether or not local property taxes should be increased or stay the same. A (July 6) Wall Street Journal article appears to vindicate my position of a few years ago when I was vice president of council and led the finance committee in many debates to actually consider reducing property taxes for our residents. The idea was received by borough staff, council leadership and a majority of members with disbelief. They all expressed a “we should never do this” attitude. ....

CHARITY store bosses had to stop accepting donations after being overwhelmed with support from the public. AGE UK s new store, at the site of a former kitchen and bathroom showroom on the corner of Walney Road and Wilkie Road, Barrow, officially opened yesterday. Staff welcomed customers back to the new store, which is set over two floors, with a separate furniture showroom. Operations manager Vicki Martin said: “We’re so excited to be finally opening today. The store looks great and we’ve got a range of fantastic items for shoppers. “We’ve been overwhelmed with the response from the public. The kindness of our customers is something else. We even had to stop taking donations at one point because we had so many donations to process. ....
Steven Hester Category: The Block Island School Committee met on April 12, and the meeting began in a typically mundane fashion: call to order, approval of the minutes from the March 15 meeting and a statement of accounts. As it is nearing the end of the academic year, the school is able to accurately project what amount of fund balance will be needed for use as budgeted revenue. The current projection is to use $55,097, as opposed to the original budgeted amount of $96,343. Superintendent Mike Convery gave his report, indicating that as Block Island does not meet the poverty rate (two percent) to receive funds from the ESSER funding and ....
