JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Students lined up outside schools across Jacksonville on Thursday morning to be searched after threats prompted increased security at schools in Duval County.
High schools in Duval County will have enhanced security Thursday and Friday after numerous social media threats, according to a district official.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In an email to Sandalwood High School personnel Wednesday night, Principal Saryn Hatcher addressed the student-organized, mass walkout that occurred hours earlier.
“I wanted you to hear from me about some unrest we faced recently as a school family, and steps I’d like to take to bring our school community together,” Hatcher’s email said. “Today, a group of students staged a walkout. The event was largely peaceful, but did cause a disruption to the school.” ....

Of course, this wasn t supposed to be taken literally and face masks are still mandated on Duval Schools campuses. The district described the campaign as a way to encourage students to reach out to trusted adults when they are suffering.
But parents and teachers say at a glance, and with the misleading email subject line: Help students #TakeOffTheMask, they re worried the mental health campaign could cause even more harm.
Communication from the district especially when it regards the availability of mental health services needs to be crystal clear, Reisinger told the Times-Union. The figurative suggestion of taking off the mask is inappropriate, confusing and dangerous. ....

Students at Coleg Cambria are supporting a hedgehog sanctuary battling a dramatic spike in deaths of the much-loved creatures.
Animal Care learners at the Llysfasi campus are rehabilitating four European hedgehogs and hope to release them back into the wild in the new year.
In partnership with Hedgehog Help Prestatyn (HHP), they have been caring for them in a converted room which can hold eight of the popular prickly animals at any one time, providing warmth, shelter and regular meals.
And their efforts are much needed; this time last year, HHP had more than 80 hedgehogs to look after. At present, they only have 20. ....
