The 2012 carnival of the Indian Ocean Vanilla Islands that is staged in Seychelles annually by Seychelles and La Reunion, moved into gear this week with an official countdown that took place at the International Conference Center (ICCS) in Victoria, the capital of the Seychelles.
In the presence of the French Ambassador, Mr. Philippe Delacroix ; the Chairman of the Seychelles Tourism Board, Mr. Barry Faure; members of the tourism trade and of the Seychelles business community; and Alain St.Ange, CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board said that the countdown to the 2012 carnival was but a teaser to what was coming to Seychelles on March 2-4. ....

'Stir Crazy' Travelers Set To Hit Road For Memorial Day Weekend


Savannah-area hotels are expecting to be 99% full for Memorial Day weekend.

About one million Georgians are expected to hit the road this Memorial Day weekend, according to auto club AAA. Including air, train and other forms of transit, some 1.16 million are planning to travel.
The numbers come despite high gas prices and in stark contrast to this time last year, when pandemic shutdowns were in effect in many places.
“People were not traveling, you know, by car, plane, train or cruise at that point last year,” said Montrae Waiters of AAA. ....

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - May is National Historic Preservation Month and it’s no secret the past is very present in Savannah. This month is all about celebrating what makes the Hostess City unique.
“It’s extraordinary that in Savannah the way we build is by preserving our past and I don’t think there’s any other community that has more dedicated individuals and organizations to preserve not just the aesthetics, and not just the history, but our culture through our storytelling and our placemaking,” said Michael Owens, President and CEO of Tourism Leadership Council. ....

The pandemic led to mass layoffs at hotels and restaurants; with economy recovering quickly, business are now shorthanded


On a Wednesday afternoon, Angela Yeo, owner of Le Café Gourmet, tamped down coffee grounds as a worker manned the cash register in the small Parisian-style cafe.
Like many businesses lately, the downtown eatery is stretching to accommodate eager customers while being severely short staffed. Yeo and her husband are working with a skeleton crew of four, which isn’t enough to keep them open for their usual seven days a week  and barely gets them through their opening hours.
As a result, the cafe has announced they’ll be closed on Thursdays as they work to fill staff positions. Yeo said they need at least three more staffers to work comfortably. ....
