Rep. Lauren Boebert has harshly criticized President Joe Biden s decision to pause oil and gas leasing on federal lands and waters as part of a drive to fight climate change.
The newly elected Republican, who represents Colorado s 3rd congressional district, said the administration s fossil fuel policies would cost American jobs and were appeasing environmental extremists.
Boebert pointed out that about 44 percent of the natural gas produced in Colorado comes from her district. Other members of Congress from similarly fossil fuel-dependent communities have made similar arguments.

A Bangladeshi refugee with asthma has avoided deportation from
France after a court ruled that pollution in his native country would aggravate his condition and potentially kill him.
The Court of Appeal of Bordeaux ruled last month that the 40-year-old asthmatic would face ‘a worsening of his respiratory pathology due to air pollution’ if he was deported to Bangladesh.
Experts believe it could be the first case in the world where someone forced out of their home has won the right to settle in a new country, effectively on environmental grounds. ....

In France, a man was saved from being deported because of his health condition, and deporting him would worsen his ailment. The man was reported to have been diagnosed with severe asthma, and his country of origin is one with terrible air quality. Sending him home would be a turn for the worse and exacerbate his breathing disability.

Last month, the appeals court for the Administrative Court of Bordeaux granted the status of sick foreigner to a Bangladeshi suffering from a respiratory disease, taking into account the air pollution in his country of origin. The decision was a first in France.
Living in France for almost a decade, Sheel , a Bangladeshi suffering from a respiratory disease, obtained his first residence permit for sick foreigners in 2015. The Toulouse-based 40-something suffers from a form of severe asthma that needs extensive treatment as well as severe sleep apnea, requiring him to sleep with breathing assistance every night. ....

Reducing emissions of greenhouse gases and air pollutants is a key issue on the agenda of both public regulators and private firms. On the one side, firms seek to adopt more environmentally friendly production methods to fill institutional voids, to become more efficient in the use of energy and resources, or simply to signal their socially responsible behaviour to customers and policymakers (Darnall et al. 2008, Baek 2017).
