Melbourne, Feb 9 : Ace India tennis player Sumit Nagal on Tuesday faced a crushing straight-sets defeat against Lithuania s Ricardas Berankis in the first round contest to bow out of the men s singles event of the Australian Open.
Nagal, India s second-highest ranked men s singles player, lost 2-6, 5-7, 3-6 to Berankis in a match that lasted two hours and six minutes at Court 17. Last week, the 23-year-old Indian had lost to the world number 72 in the build-up event. ....

Ninth seed Matteo Berrettini grit his teeth to save eight set points in the first set of a 7-6(9), 7-5, 6-3 victory over former World No. 5 Kevin Anderson on Tuesday night at the Australian Open.
Berrettini, who hit 45 winners including 14 aces and committed just 15 unforced errors, will now prepare to face Czech qualifier Tomas Machac in the second round on Thursday.

Time and again we have seen and experienced the vagaries of nature but we still continue to ignore them as if they have no connection with us. This time the result has been destroyed hydel projects and a giant wave of water and sediments, which have swept away everything in their path. Many people are still missing, some are no more, there are huge economic losses, and there is a change in the natural topography.
