As the world continues to battle against the COVID-19 pandemic, Ontario on Saturday received permission from Health Canada to extend the expiry of some doses of the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine, saving thousands of shots from potentially going to waste. A spokesperson for Health Minister Christine Elliott said the change means doses with an original expiry of May 31 can now be used until July 1. ....

Ask your child if they want the COVID-19 vaccine before booking an appointment, experts say

While Canadian health authorities have approved the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for use in children ages 12 and up, experts say parents shouldn’t assume their child wants the jab.
Dr. Kathryn Birnie, a clinical child psychologist and assistant professor at the University of Calgary, told CTVNews.ca that children may be hesitant to get the COVID-19 vaccine and says parents need to address those concerns before booking them an appointment.
One of the things we can do as parents is to ask about what their concerns are, Birnie said in a telephone interview on Thursday. Having a conversation helps to understand where they re coming from, and understand what those concerns are. ....

Quebec to open COVID-19 vaccine reservations for 12-17-year-olds on May 25

Children ages 12 to 17 can register to get their COVID-19 vaccinations starting May 25,  and in-school vaccinations will be carried out the weeks of June 7 and June 14, Quebec Health Minister Christian Dubé announced Thursday at a news conference in Montreal.
The goal is to have at least 75 per cent of children who fall into that age category vaccinated with one dose by June 23. Those who miss that deadline will still be able to book an appointment during the summer.
