th year of Boyanika, it’s a proud moment to launch the wedding collection where the handloom fabrics are being woven into graceful and luxurious attire. This wedding collection is made by our NIFT designers who have used Sambalpuri, Ikat, Bomkai, Kotpad and tassar fabrics and Odissi handloom is all about tradition. Let’s hope our rich tradition is taken way ahead through this amazing collection and our Bandha Kala will be popularised globally too.”
Handloom expo kick starts amid fanfare
Bhubaneswar, Jan 20: Organised by Boyanika, the National Level Handloom Expo 2021 was inaugurated amid much fan fare at Exhibition Ground here Wednesday.
Minsiter Of Handloom, Textiles and Handicrafts Padmini Dian inaugurated the expo in the presence of Minister of Science and Technology, Public Enterprise, Social Security and Empowerment of PwD Ashok Chandra Panda and Bhubaneswar Central MLA Ananta Narayan Jena.
With around 134 stalls, the expo featured nine yard traditional saree along with various handicrafts.
Interacting with Orissa POST, Dian said, “The government is quite concerned about our weavers and that is why we have organised this expo. Weavers have participated in large numbers and I am expecting all the losses incurred during Covid to be recovered through the fest.”
SIDAC gets Centre of Excellence status
SIDAC is the first state-run institute in the country to impart non-technical training, sources said.
SIDAC is a state government sponsored organisation and it was established in 2004. It has been functioning as an autonomous agency for the development of handicrafts sector in Odisha.
The organisation is managed through a governing body headed by Commissioner-cum-Secretary to Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts (HTH) department.
The institute is imparting skill training in handicrafts. It has developed syllabi for the craft courses and standardised the same by implementing the training programmes for more than 10 years, sources added.
With the integration of state-of-art handicrafts and handloom museum ‘Kalabhoomi’, SIDAC has turned out to be a favoured place for the students from across the country for research activities in the traditional skills as well as related subjects.
