Siddharth Shriram – industrialist, patron of arts no more

Heaven for Siddharth Shriram was the golf course. The industrialist and former chairman of Usha International would get often get poetic on the fairway, waxing lyrical about there being no greater pleasure than putting around on the greens under blue skies.
He even wrote extensively on golf – and beautifully. Not surprisingly, early in his life, Shriram harboured journalistic ambitions and even had a short stint with a news outfit before he entered the family business.
On Monday, the multifaceted businessman, who was a generous patron of golf, arts and music, and loved to play bridge and solve crosswords, lost the battle to Covid-19. He was 76.

ETimes got in touch with RRR producer D V V Danayya to know what makes him release RRR opposite Maidaan. Danayya simply said, Look, RRR has been sold out to the distributors. There is COVID all over us and therefore, there has been a delay in its release. I was under pressure from the distributors. Thereafter, we kept quizzing him that why he couldn t ward off his distributors demand and Danayya only kept repeating that he couldn t hear us clearly and eventually hung up. Post that, several calls and text messages to him and even SS Rajamouli (director of RRR ) failed to evoke any further response.
