Ludhiana: Residents between 18 and 45 years of age will have to wait more for getting themselves vaccinated as first the construction workers in this age group will get immunised in the drive starting from Monday. The labour department has shared a list of such workers with the health department for the vaccination programme. District immunisation officer (DIO) Dr Puneet Juneja said as per the guidelines of the state government, construction workers would be the first among the public in the 18-45 age group to be vaccinated in the drive. He said they have already got the doses for them and these would be separate from those for other age groups of 45-59 years and 60-plus, whose vaccination would continue at government health setups. The immunisation of construction workers will be done at cluster sites and the labour department has been informed about the process, he said. ....
Ludhiana: Even as the second wave of Covid-19 is at its peak and authorities are insisting that every eligible person should get inoculated, the district on Wednesday evening had vaccine stock for only one day. The health department claims to have written to the state government for more vaccines. District immunization officer (DIO) Dr Puneet Juneja said they had vaccine doses for Thursday only as no new stock arrived. The DIO said that Wednesday’s sessions were being wound up so that the exact doses needed could be known in the evening. Health officials said though exact doses left would be known by late Wednesday evening, the number of vaccines required for Thursday’s sessions were around 5,000 to 6,000. They said most likely the district would have more stock of Covaxin for Thursday’s sessions as compared with Covishield. ....
Ludhiana: With as many as 40 students of various schools in the district testing positive for coronavirus last week, the spread of Covid-19 among the students has emerged as a big challenge for the authorities. Although cases of infection among teachers and students have been reported since the reopening of schools last month, the rate of students testing positive has increased of late. Of the 86 students found infected with the virus in various schools of the district, nearly half (40) were tested positive last week only, according a health department data. All the cases of infection among students reported last week came from two schools, including Government Senior Secondary School, Chaunta, from where 37 cases have been reported till now, while seven cases have surfaced in a private school in Samrala. A female teacher and a male peon of the Chauta school also tested positive last week. ....
