Norwalk celebrates Arbor Day

NORWALK, Conn. For Arbor Day 2021, Eversource and the City planted 10 new trees, in cooperation with Norwalk Public Schools, Norwalk Tree Advisory Committee, Norwalk Tree Alliance, and Oak Hills Park Authority. Eight were planted Friday in Oak Hills Park; Eversource paid for five of the trees while the City paid for three.
To meet the Arbor Day Foundation guidelines of “Planting the Right Tree in the Right Place,” three Fastigiate European Hornbeams were planted near the white house at the Oak Hills Park entrance sign, a Redmond American Linden and a Liberty Elm were planted near the Great Lawn area behind the Club House Building, and two Swamp White Oaks plus a Red Maple tree were planted in the park along Fillow Street. ....

A charter amendment likely to be on the May ballot would require Cincinnati to spend at least $50 million a year on affordable housing. Advocates say it s long past time to act, while critics say the impact on the budget would be devastating.
Cincinnati Homeless Coalition Executive Director Josh Spring says it s encouraging that council is talking about the crisis more, but he says talk isn t enough.
With these issues, we often end up where folks say, Let s create a task force; let s do a study; let s put together a report, Spring said. If we don t take action, if we don t put real money into it, we re not going to get ourselves out of this crisis. ....

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Cincinnati City Council voted 5-4 to advance a massive new development in Over-The-Rhine Wednesday.
The $77 million project moves forward without guaranteed affordable housing over the strong objections of some community members as well as the minority voting block.
The issue divided council along strange lines, with Republicans backing more money for the streetcar and Democrats voting against it. ....
