Guwahati, Dec 29 (IANS): The Assam government introduced Bills in the Assembly on Monday to shut over 600 madrasas run by it, which was strongly opposed by the opposition Congress and AIUDF.
Assam Education and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma introducing the bill in the assembly, said: The objective to introduce the bill the Assam Repealing bill 2020 would repeal of the Assam Madrassa Education (Provincialisation) Act 1995 and the Assam Madrassa Education (Provincialisation of services of employees and re-organisation of Madrassa Educational Institutions) Act 2018.
The bill, tabled on the opening day of the 3-day Winter Session of the assembly, said: With the aim to provide exposure towards more subjects and enable greater flexibility with more frequent formative assessment for learning, a policy decision has been taken by the Government of Assam to convert ....

The three-day winter session of the Assam Assembly commenced on Monday, following Covid-19 protocols. Assam Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that he will introduce a bill to repeal provincialisation of Madrassas.

Guwahati: Assam Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday introduced The Assam Repealing Bill, 2020, to abolish all state-run madrassas and convert those into general schools with effect from April 1, 2021. Notably, the three-day Winter Session of the Assam Legislative Assembly commenced today.
The bill proposes to abolish two existing acts The Assam Madrassa Education (Provincialisation) Act, 1995 and The Assam Madrassa Education (Provincialisation of Services of Employees and Re-Organisation of Madrassa Educational Institutions) Act, 2018.
