'Roberrt' review: Darshan strikes a fine balance between class and mass in this revenge drama

In what comes as a refreshing departure, Darshan-starrer Roberrt is anything but a typical action fare from the Challenging Star. The actor, who is known for his mass appeal, also delivers an all-round performance that establishes his class credentials too.
Right in the opening number,
Rama Rama
, we see Darshan being conflicted between good and evil. Lucknow-based cook Raghav (Darshan), who lives a simple life, is a stammerer like his son Arjun. As the plot progresses, we get to know more about Raghav s past, which showcases him in the titular role.
The link between past and present forms the basis of this classic revenge drama. Darshan is impressive in all three shades - a gangster, a faithful friend and a good father. Despite going on the tried and tested path, director Tharun Kishore Sudhir manages to inject a breath of freshness into the lead character and the plot. ....

Raghava, who lives in Varanasi with his son Arjun, works as the head chef at a catering centre that specialises in supplying food for people hosting a function to mark death anniversaries. He happens to rescue a politician from his opponent and wants to lead a peaceful life. But circumstances compel him to follow his original lifestyle – protecting the hapless and eliminating vicious people.
Post the lockdown, Roberrt is the second big-budget bilingual movie after Pogaru to hit the silver screen. This bilingual (Kannada and Telugu) movie has all the ingredients required to entertain mass audiences, especially the hard-core fans of Challenging Star ....

Thie wait is finally over as Challenging Star Darshan & Co. are here to make a grand entry onto the big screen with Roberrt . Coming out simultaneously in Kannada and Telugu, Roberrt is this week s sole release (in Kannada) and the stage, as it would seem, couldn t have been set better for the film to flex its muscles.
Having been in the making for quite some time, Roberrt has certainly had its share of delays and inconveniences. Apart from the unavoidable break due to the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020, Roberrt s Telugu version too hit a major roadblock when the Telugu Film Chamber had implored the makers to delay the release by a week or two in Andhra and Telangana states. However, the situation was handled by the right authorities and the film was able to release on the same day as the Kannada version. ....

It s a big day for the Sandalwood industry as the much-awaited film
Roberrt has finally graced the theatres today (March 11). The action-thriller starring Challenging Star Darshan has also become the first big-budget film to hit the screens post the COVID-19 pandemic. Though the film was originally slated to release in April 2020, the makers were forced to postpone the date owing to the sudden pandemic and the subsequent lockdown.
As the film has released on the festive occasion of Maha Shivaratri, the theatres and multiplexes across the state have been witnessing a huge crowd.
