Wells Council makes plans for next Kernel Days

With Kernel Days just around the corner in August, the Wells City Council spent some time at their meeting this past Monday night, July 12, authorizing some requests concerning the Wells summer festival.
The Wells Chamber of Commerce and Wells Jaycees requested permission to block off Seventh Avenue SW, between Half Moon Road and First Street SW, between Aug. 20-22.
They also requested a noise variance for the weekend of Kernel Days on both Aug. 20 and Aug. 21 until 2 a.m.
Another request was permission to shoot off fireworks from the compost site on Aug. 20, and to have the Kernel Days Parade on Aug. 21, at 5 p.m., and follow the same route as in 2018 and 2019. ....

Wild Center reopens today for outdoor fun

TUPPER LAKE â The Wild Center, at 45 Museum Drive, reopens today after a monthlong closure for spring cleaning. As a continued commitment to the health and safety of visitors, staff and the wider community, the nature-based science center will operate as an outdoor-only experience for now. In addition, it will maintain enhanced operational procedures and cleaning protocols including timed ticket reservations, limited capacity and the use of face coverings.
The Wild Center will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, the center wil be open seven days a week. Timed reservations, which may be made online, by phone or email prior to arrival, give guests access to the award-winning Wild Walk, immersive Forest Music experience and hiking trails across the 115-acre campus. ....

Many housing developments underway in and around the city

The city of Wells has many new proposed housing development projects in the works. As many as four or five new developments are being studied and considered by the Wells City Council at this time.
Not many small town City Councils can say they have their hands full with multiple proposed housing development projects.
However, the Wells City Council is trying to work on not one or two, but four or five new developments.
“It is very unusual to have this many all at one time,” city administrator CJ Holl said. “Usually most of the land in a small town is already all divided up.” ....

(ABC 6 News) - DEED announces Over $13 Million in relief grants to convention centers and movie theaters statewide 73 movie theaters in 118 locations and 15 convention centers received awards.
The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development has announced awards of $4.6 million in Convention Center Relief Grants and $8.54 million in Movie Theater Relief Grants to facilities across the state. These grants were part of a $216 million economic relief package signed into law by Governor Tim Walz on Dec. 16, 2020. This package included a $14 million appropriation for grants to movie theaters and convention centers in Minnesota impacted by COVID-19.
“Convention centers and movie theatres are an important part of our economy that has been severely impacted by COVID-19,” said DEED Commissioner Steve Grove. “The state and our team at DEED have worked hard to award these grants quickly t ....
