Clwyd South MP backs campaign for lifesaving skills to be taught in Welsh schools

CLWYD South MP Simon Baynes has co-signed a letter calling on the Welsh Education Minister to make the teaching of CPR and other lifesaving skills compulsory in the new Curriculum for Wales.

The Welsh Conservatives are also calling for lessons in the use and purpose of defibrillators to be included in the curriculum, making it compulsory for all secondary schools in Wales to teach essential lifesaving skills, as they are already in England and Scotland.
This follows a significant amount of campaigning on the issue by Suzy Davies MS in the Senedd.
The campaign is strongly supported by the friends and family of Janene Maguire, from Gwernymynydd, Mold, who died unexpectedly after suffering a cardiac arrest in February 2000 - and after Janene’s daughter, Cara, suffered a cardiac arrest herself in August 2020, during which, her friend Michael, a former soldier trained in first aid, was able to perform CPR until paramedics arrived – ....

Vail's Jack Eck is retiring from his role with Vail Health

Jack Eck isn’t going anywhere, but Vail’s third full-time doctor Tom Steinberg and Bill Holm were the first and second is retiring from nearly 50 years of service in the community.
Eck, 78, first came to Vail in 1971, fresh out of the U.S. Army, where he’d been a flight surgeon in both Vietnam and, later, in New Jersey.
A small-town guy from Pennsylvania, Eck was ready for something more peaceful than the jungles of that war-torn Asian country. Thanks to some friends, he found his landing spot in Vail in 1971.
He came to ski with friends in January of that year. At Donovan’s Copper Bar one night, Eck asked if there were any openings in the still-fledgling ski town. There wasn’t at the time, but Eck left his contact information with Steinberg and Holm. A few months later, a position opened up. ....

Health Department extends county mask order

The Jefferson County Health Department Board of Trustees has extended the countyâs face mask order.
At the boardâs meeting today (Dec. 21), the trustees voted 3-2 to extend the order until 5 p.m. Jan. 21.
Suzy Davis and James Prater voted against extending the order, and those who voted in favor included chairman Dennis Diehl and board members Tim Pigg and Amber Henry.
The order, which does not include fines or penalties for those who violate it, originally went into effect at 12:01 a.m. Nov. 27. It would have ended at 5 p.m. today if the trustees had not extended it. ....
