BATHINDA: With the second wave of Covid-19 wreaking havoc across India and questions being raised on assembly of people everywhere, farm groups have vehemently denied that gathering of people is contributing to rising number of cases.
Though it is said the second wave started in the middle of February in Maharashtra, a publication has stated that the second wave originated from the farmers’ protest in early January with Punjab and Haryana becoming the hotspots.
The organisations, reacting to a claim in one publication that the second wave originated at farmers’ protest, said in that case it would have first caused devastation at the stir sites. There is no evidence of any Covid-19 case at the protest sites, despite large number of persons gathering there, they have claimed. Earlier, nearly 400 farmers had died due to various reasons at protests but after the advent of second wave, the death rate has declined at ....

BATHINDA: Farmers protesting against the three contentious farm laws completed 200 days on Sunday, but a newer and a bigger challenge confronts them now saving activists from the onslaught of second and more severe Covid-19 wave.
Despite the steady increase in active caseload for over a month now, farmers and farm outfits have no plan to vacate the protest sites and are determined to continue on the path of confrontation.
One of the largest farm organisations of Punjab, BKU (Ekta Ugrahan), has given a call for farmers to join protests in large numbers on April 21. Haryana farmers have also given an ultimatum of closing down Bahadurgarh toll plaza on April 21. ....

Chandigarh: Technically speaking, there was nothing wrong in the latest move of Punjab electricity department aka Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) to shift its telecom provider for its 14,000 field employees to Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Jio.
PSPCL chairman A. Venu Prasad said that SIM cards of employees were being changed because the five-year-old contract of the current telecom firm – Vodafone – was going to expire later this month. In the new tender in which three telecom firms, including the existing service provider participated, Jio emerged as the lowest bid ....
