Seamus Murphy is no stranger to the unexpected, having worked in war zones from Gaza to Syria and covered assignments such as the drug wars in Mexico and the Ebola outbreak in Uganda. The Irish photographer, however, wasn’t entirely sure what to expect when he knocked on the door of John Ryan’s home in Co Tipperary. It was 1998, and Murphy was there to photograph Ryan, then 105-years-old, as part of a project documenting IRA veterans from the War of Independence. ....

CLEVELAND, Ohio The Cleveland Cinemas (Cedar Lee, the Capitol and Chagrin Cinemas) beginning Jan. 8 will be screening a new film, “Nightshift.”
Not to be confused with 2018 horror film “Nightshift” (or Ron Howard’s ’80s comedy “Night Shift”), director Anne Fontaine’s new suspenseful drama finds three Parisian cops forced to accept an unusual mission to escort a foreigner to the border.
After discovering the prisoner risks death if he returns to his country, one of the officers struggles with the moral dilemma. ....

CLEVELAND, Ohio The Cleveland Institute of Art’s Cinematheque beginning Jan. 1 will be screening a powerful and apt modern adaptation of Sophocles’ “Antigone.”
The tragedy is set in Montreal, where an Algerian refugee family’s 17-year-old daughter fights against law and authority. Sophie Deraspe’s film was the winner of five 2020 Canadian Screen Awards, including Best Motion Picture and Best Actress.
Also on Jan. 1, Cleveland Cinemas (Cedar Lee, the Capitol and Chagrin Cinemas) is screening “Stand!,” which is directed by Robert Adetuyi. ....
