The fierce new COVID-19 wave across Southeast Asia - home to about one-fourth of the world s population - has prompted some manufacturing orders originally sent to the region to shift to China in recent months, in what could be the start of a long-term trend of production relocation as a result of the pandemic, according to factories and industry analysts.

21st UITIC International Footwear Congress - The 2021 Congress will be postponed to 2022 25 February 2021 Initially, UITIC, the International Union of Shoe Industry Technicians, had planned to organize its 21st Congress in 2021, in China.    Due to the Covid 19, the Executive Committee Members of UITIC, in agreement with the host organisation, CLIA - China Leather Industry Association, represented by Li Yu Zhong its General Secretary, have taken the decision to have the 21st UITIC International Footwear Congres postponed to 2022.  “China is almost back to normal, but hosting an international congress could be difficult within 2021, due to the Covid 19 impact on transportation.  It is true that it has been a long time since the 20th Congress in Portugal in 2018, however the current situation imposes on us to have a very responsible and cautious organization and invites us to rethink all our processes”, declared Yves MORIN, President of UITC.

The Danish government had hired the University of Copenhagen veterinary pathologist in June 2020 to investigate if farmers were infecting mink with the novel coronavirus. This meant going from farm to farm, looking for animals that weren’t eating or had a cough and taking blood samples and mouth swabs. The virus, SARS-CoV-2, had been spreading rapidly among mink farmers, and officials were worried that it would not only infect the country’s roughly 17 million farmed mink but also jump back to humans. That leap had already been documented in the Netherlands.
