The family of the late Sidik Mia has donated 4, 800 face masks to two of the countryâs correctional facilities, Zomba Maximum and Blantyre Prison. Malawi Congress Party MCP Director of Campaign Moses Kunkuyu, who presented the items, said the gesture by the Mia family would want to see the country winning the battle against the pandemic hence reaching out to the most vulnerable. Receiving the donation, Workshop in-Charge at Zomba Maximum prison, Tarsizio Namata welcomed the gesture and thanked Mia’s family, saying the donation will help a lot in stopping further spread of the virus among inmates. An inmate at Zomba Maximum Security Prison, Stanley Jamali, expressed gratitude for the donation, saying many of them had challenges in accessing the masks. ....

There is a growing concern that infections are being driven in part by a new strain of coronavirus known as 501.V2 which has so far been reported in three SADC countries, according to the Africa Centre for Disease Control, he said in his address on the second wave of Covid-19 in the SADC.
