Waves battered Chesil Beach on Saturday night, causing water and debris to run into the streets. Large crowds gathered to watch the storm. HM Coastguard were called to the scene to stop people from getting too close to the waves. A spokesman for HM Coastguard said: We received a 999 call at 8.10pm on Saturday reporting a number of people on the sea wall watching an incoming storm at Chiswell on the Isle of Portland. The Portland Bill Coastguard Rescue Team attended to provide safety advice and to usher people from the area. While at the scene three members of the coastguard team were injured due to being hit by a large freak wave. One of these was seriously injured and was taken to hospital by the South West Ambulance Service for treatment. ....
Powerful waves overtopped flood defences in West Bay on Saturday night, throwing sand up onto The Esplanade. Environment Agency officers were called to the area as there was a risk of flooding, however, no properties have reportedly been flooded. Flood protection work was completed in October last year at West Bay to help reduce the chances of properties and businesses flooding. A spokesman for the Environment Agency said: We responded to high waves creating a risk of flooding in West Bay this weekend. There was some overtopping of the flood defences at The Esplanade due to the power of the waves but no reports of property flooding. ....

Car washed away after huge waves batter defences at Dorset beach A CAR has been washed away after huge waves crashed over a defence wall at a Dorset beach, dragging it backwards. Huge waves battered Chesil Beach, Portland on Saturday night, shutting Portland Beach Road, and leading to flooding. Emergency Services, including HM Coastguard and paramedics were called to the Chiswell area of Portland at around 9.30pm last night due to the crashing waves, which caused water and debris to run into streets.
