This group of paintings were the museum’s first coherent group of artworks – like many museums at the time, the popular subject for curators was natural history rather than fine art – and so this collection marked the very beginnings of the Museum’s interest in art and art history.
Nowadays, they are arguably the most significant part of Worcester’s Fine Art collection and are certainly some of the oldest artworks in its care.

Finding a Path to Peace in Ethiopia's Tigray Region


What’s new? After weeks of fighting in Ethiopia’s Tigray region, federal troops removed the regional government and declared victory. Yet thousands have died, hundreds of thousands are at risk of starvation and the conflict continues. Addis Ababa has established an interim administration, but ousted Tigrayan politicians say they will fight back.
Why did it happen? Relations between Addis Ababa and Mekelle tanked after Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed took office in 2018 and Tigray’s leaders lost federal power. Tensions spiked when Tigray defied central authority by holding regional elections in September, culminating when Tigrayan forces captured the national military command in the region, triggering federal intervention. ....

In honor of Black History Month, we, the Assistant Town Historians, wanted to show you, our readers the stories of Greenburgh’s first African-American police officers. We would like to examine the lives of the: first black officer in Greenburgh, first black ranking officer in Greenburgh, and the first Community Relations Officer.

Detective Henry Heath:
 Detective Henry Heath was Greenburgh’s first ever African-American police officer. He was appointed to Police Officer on February 1, 1950 and promoted to Detective February 8, 1961 (Personal Communication  from Police Chief Chris McNerney).
