A motion to recall Taiwan Statebuilding Party Legislator Chen Po-wei (陳柏惟) has met the legal threshold of 2,912 signatures to proceed to the second stage, the Central Election Commission said yesterday.
A total of 3,744 valid signatures were received, the commission said, adding that the petitioners need to collect at least 29,113 within the next 60 days for a recall vote to be held.
According to the Civil Servants Election and Recall Act (公職人員選舉罷免法), the first stage to recall a legislator requires the signatures of 1 percent of the eligible voters in the lawmaker’s constituency, and 10 percent in the second stage. ....

Independent Kaohsiung City Councilor Huang Jie (黃捷) yesterday weathered a recall vote to retain her councilor seat in Fongshan District (鳳山).
Kaohsiung City Election Commission data showed that 65,391 people voted against recalling her, while 55,261 voted in favor.
The voter turnout was 41.54 percent, the data showed.

He was elected twice, with more than 16,000 votes each time, but on Jan. 16, 84,582 people voted to oust him in a recall vote. Could former Taoyuan city councilor Wang Hao-yu (王浩宇), who left office on Friday last week, really have behaved badly enough for more than 80,000 people to vote for his ouster?
Some people say this happened because of loud voices on the Internet. Others put it down to mobilization by the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT).
No matter why it happened, the simplest factor involved is a mathematical one. In a multimember electoral district where 90 percent of voters support the KMT or other pan-blue parties, Wang was re-elected in 2018 with just 8.68 percent of the vote. ....
