HOUSTON – The fallout continues after last month’s historic winter storm that crippled the Texas power grid.
The Electric Reliability Council of Texas announced this week that retail providers are behind by $345 million in payments. The power providers that are in default of payment are now trying to figure out what is next for their companies and what to do with their customers. Other providers on the ERCOT list say they are not behind on payments and their customers do not have to make a change. ....

The Public Utility Commission of Texas has issued a series of orders since Friday, February 19, 2021 to address the potential of mass transitions of retail electric customers and retail billing issues resulting from the extreme weather event last week.

On Friday, February 19, 2021, the Texas PUC held an emergency meeting and voted to approve an order related to the designation of Retail Electric Providers (“REPs”) to serve as Volunteer Retail Electric Provider (“VREP”) because of the potential of mass transitions of retail electric customers to Providers of Last Resort (“POLR”).
