Supermarkets hammer out details on future of plastics

A pilot project on establishing a plastic alliance of Vietnamese supermarkets and shepherding the retail industry towards the more sustainable production and consumption of plastics was launched on March 31 by the Institute of Strategy and Policy on Natural Resources and Environment, along with the Department of Industry and Trade of Hanoi.
Last week’s consultation workshop opened discussions on the goals of the Plastic Alliance
The Plastic Alliance is one of four initiatives under the Rethinking Plastics – Circular Economy Solutions to Marine Litter Project running in Vietnam until 2022, co-funded by the European Union and the German government. ....

The Latest: Lockdown extended for metro Manila, surroundings

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine government extended a lockdown by another week Monday after an alarming spike in coronavirus infections continued to surge and started to overwhelm many hospitals in the capital and outlying regions.
President Rodrigo Duterte placed Metropolitan Manila and four outlying provinces, a region of more than 25 million people, back under lockdown last week as daily infections breached the 10,000-mark. Leaders of the dominant Roman Catholic church shifted its Holy Week and Easter events online after all public gatherings, including in places of worship, were temporarily banned.
The government-run Lung Center of the Philippines became the latest hospital in the capital region to announce over the weekend that it can no longer accept walk-in patients after its COVID-19 ward reached full capacity while its emergency room was now handling twice its capacity. ....

'Godzilla Vs. Kong' Tops Pandemic Box Office With $32.2 Million Domestic Opening Weekend – NBC Connecticut


Internationally, Godzilla vs. Kong added an additional $71.6 million to its box office haul. Since opening last week in foreign markets, the film has tallied $285.4 million.
The results for Godzilla vs. Kong are absolutely mind-blowing and a represent a welcome back of sorts for an industry that has been working its way back from the brink for over a year, said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at Comscore.
Godzilla vs. Kong opened in more than 3,000 theaters in North America over the weekend, the most of any film during the pandemic. In addition to posting the largest opening weekend since the coronavirus pandemic began, the film also had the largest opening day on Wednesday with $9.6 million and the largest single-day on Saturday with $12.5 million. ....
