As many as 194 crocodiles have been relocated from a lake near the Statue of Unity in Gujarat s Narmada district in the last two years for the safety of tourists who come to enjoy boat rides there, officials said on Sunday.
The Panchmuli lake, situated near the 182-metre tall statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in Kevadia, a major tourist attraction, had a large number of crocodiles that posed a threat to visitors, they said. In 2019-20 (October-March), we relocated 143 crocodiles. In 2020-21, another 51 crocodiles were shifted to two rescue centres in Gandhinagar and Godhra, Kevadia Range Forest Officer Vikramsinh Gabhania, told PTI.
Statue of Unity/Surat: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang paid visit to the Statue of Unity in Gujarat. Tamang was in Gujarat to participate in Dandi Yatra which is organized to mark ‘Aazadi Amrut Mahotsav’. Tamang is accompanied by over 150 persons including Sikkim MLAs, officials, journalists from Sikkim. A dinner function was organized by diamond baron Mahesh Sawani for entire Sikkim delegation last evening. Sikkim Chief Minister in his addresses invited the people of Gujarat to visit Sikkim. He said the highest number of tourists in Sikkim come from Gujarat. The hotels and travel industry in Sikkim love tourists from Gujarat. Sikkim Chief Minister also invited those who want to set up university in Sikkim not just for local students of Sikkim, but also for entire North East, Nepal and Bhutan. He said the population of Sikkim is 8 lakh and there are 8 universities.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Kevadia today, to address the closing ceremony of the National Director-General (DG) conference on national security, being held at the Statue of Unity Tent city from March 3 to 6. Prime Minister is scheduled to reach Kevadia from Ahmedabad at 8.50 am by Air Force helicopter.
The PM will review the operational situation on the China and Pakistan fronts as well as the progress towards setting up tri-Service integrated commands and structures during the CCC, which is being held with all top commanders of the Army, Navy, and IAF at Kevadia in Gujarat from March 4 to 6.
