Situation at MAEPS PKRC more challenging after surge in Covid-19 patients

ALAM: The situation at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) Quarantine and Treatment Centre (PKRC) 2.0 has become more challenging following the admission of more category three Covid-19 patients, said the Selangor Health Department.
In a posting on its Facebook page today, it said that in early January the centre had only 60 beds but now the MAEPS Integrated PKRC was catering to 757 category three patients and planning to increase its capacity to 1,000 beds.
The increase in bed capacity is to support the healthcare system in the Klang Valley following a spike in Covid-19 cases. ....

Covid-19: Employers concerned foreign workers could contract coronavirus after testing negative

KLANG: Employers are concerned that their foreign workers who tested negative during the compulsory Covid-19 screening, could become positive a few days after that.
Given the rapid increase in daily cases in various states, especially the Klang Valley, they hope there is something that can be done to address this concern.
“We are in a Catch 22 where we can get our workers screened today and the results are negative but what can we do if they become Covid-19 positive several days down the road?’’ asked Original Penang Kayu Nasi Kandar managing director Burhan Mohamed.
He said employers of foreign workers were all compelled by the government to compulsorily screen their workers but there were no back-up plans for later developments. ....

Staff stationed, ready at Malawati Stadium, now a Covid-19 Assessment Centre

PETALING JAYA: About 80 staff members from the Selangor Health Department are stationed at the Malawati Stadium in Shah Alam, which began operating as a Covid-19 Assessment Centre (CAC) for the Petaling district on Monday (Feb 8).
State Health director Datuk Dr Sha’ari Ngadiman told StarMetro that other personnel on the premises included police and local government agencies who will assist in carrying out the CAC operations.
“The stadium and everyone at the area have been sanitised as usual by our staff according to procedure with the help of the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), ” he said.
It was announced that at the CAC, Covid-19 patients will be assessed before they are sent to hospital, Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centre in Serdang or told to undergo quarantine at home. ....

S'gor hospitals 'running smoothly and able to cope with Covid-19'

Selangor Health director Datuk Dr Sha’ari Ngadiman (
pic) said a system had been in place to ensure the state’s healthcare catered to all and continued to run smoothly.
“In Selangor only Hospital Sungai Buloh and the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) 2.0 Integrated Hospital exclusively handle Covid-19 cases, ’’ said Dr Sha’ari, adding that the latter was also equipped with intensive care unit requirements.
According to Dr Sha’ari, when patients are diagnosed with Covid-19 in other hospitals, they are sent to MAEPS if they are under category 1 or 2.
“If their condition is more serious, they are sent to Hospital Sungai Buloh or treated at the hospital they had initially gone to, ’’ he said. ....
