BROOK PARK, Ohio – Brook Park City Council is considering the creation of an outdoor safe exchange zone near the police station.
Councilman Jim Mencini proposed legislation at the April 13 caucus that would establish it, emphasizing he wants residents to feel “completely safe,” particularly when meeting strangers to buy or sell items through online sites.
“If people are exchanging things, they could have a safe area,” Mencini explained. “It could also be an exchange with some type of child support, where a woman may not feel comfortable when exchanging her child. Or maybe there’s a young guy selling a car to people he doesn’t know.” ....

BROOK PARK, Ohio City Council at its Feb. 2 meeting authorized Mayor Mike Gammella to enter into a one-year contract with Teamsters Local 436. The contract covers Jan. 1 through Dec. 31 of last year.
The second and third public readings of the Teamsters legislation were suspended, and council passed it as an emergency measure.
Meetings with the Teamsters union will continue this year in hopes of negotiating a two-year deal for 2021-22. Local 436 represents Brook Park’s clerical/office (non-safety forces, non-service department) personnel.
There are neither salary increases nor bonuses in the new contract. ....

Losing Fire Station No. 2 as a polling site, Ohio Secretary of State’s Office rule changes, low retention of experienced poll workers due to the coronavirus, and a significantly higher than expected number of curbside voters contributed to the problems, Perlatti said.
“For this election, with social distancing requirements put upon us by the CDC, Ohio Secretary of State, and health officials, we weren’t able to get the additional space we wanted for voting individually at the fire station,” Perlatti explained during council’s Dec. 8 caucus. “Working with the mayor’s office, we agreed to move that precinct into the rec center.” ....
