Between 1934 until 2020, split-jury convictions in which only 10 out of 12 jurors’ “guilty” vote is required to convict someone of a felony, rather than a unanimous vote were permissible in Oregon courtrooms. That changed last April, when the United States Supreme Court ruled the practice was unconstitutional. FARA FRIDAY: India’s government has added Ferox Strategies to the ranks of its Washington lobbying firms. Earth Day Oregon outlines April 22 fundraising campaign effort
PORTLAND, Ore. (KTVZ) Earth Day Oregon has announced that it is celebrating Earth Day on Thursday, April 22 with a campaign that partners 52 Oregon-based organizations with an anticipated 150+ businesses in Oregon.
Earth Day Oregon is a statewide collaboration between sustainably-minded businesses and nonprofits. The campaign drives donation dollars to partner organizations by fostering and promoting fundraisers, sales, and virtual events at sustainably-focused businesses on April 22.
Businesses donate a flat amount, or create opportunities for community engagement by donating a percentage of business sales on Earth Day. Earth Day Oregon will collectively promote these fundraising opportunities leading up to April 22nd through its website (https://earthdayor.org/) and social media channels.
City Club online forum will address inequities, solutions as pandemic effects vary.
Leaders of BIPOC business groups on Wednesday, Feb. 3, will talk about potential reforms after a year in which the COVID-19 pandemic disproportionately hammered racial and ethnic minorities.
The hour-long discussion hosted by City Club of Portland, part of a series called State of the Possible, happens online starting at noon.
The pandemic has disproportionately hit BIPOC-owned businesses, according to several studies.
One study by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York last July concluded that 41 percent of Black-owned businesses in the United States shut down by April, as compared to 17 percent of White-owned businesses, 32 percent of Latinx-owned businesses and 26 percent of Asian-owned businesses.
