New York Times says Berkeley's Boichik Bagels are some of the best

Monday morning of this week started out just like any other Monday morning for Emily Winston, owner of Boichik Bagels in Berkeley. It’s one of her two days off, so she was just relaxing when the phone call came.
A friend and someone who has been following the progress of Boichik closely since it began OK, it was this reporter called with some incredible news: In a headline that could only be considered incendiary by many, the New York Times had just declared, “The Best Bagels are in California (Sorry, New York).”
And not only that, but the author of the March 8 article, New York Times restaurant critic Tejal Rao, singled out Boichik as her new favorite. ....

Rigby Yard, at 50 Wharf St. in Portland, which opened for weekends as a beer hall and restaurant in October, launched Sunday brunch on March 7. It plans to open weekdays, too, beginning Monday, as a “third space” concept providing a casual space to meet, relax and work, according to Brian Hanson, co-owner of Rigby Yard and Independent Ice Co.
Rigby Yard’s new hours will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, serving coffee and coffee drinks from Time & Tide coffee roasters in Biddeford. (The hall is open later hours on weekends, still serving beer, wine and cocktails.) The food will include “light fare” and quick-serve breakfast and lunch items for eating in or takeout. The outdoor patio is expected to open April 1. ....

Food & Wine‘s “The Best Bagels in America,” which happened to highlight a much-loved Massachusetts bagel shop.
The list included Bagelsaurus, a Cambridge destination that, pre-COVID, garnered long lines on weekends and slings truly excellent bagels. (The shop now offers pre-ordering with a designated pickup time.)
Food & Wine‘s senior editor David Landsel described the shop’s bagels as “something that looks traditional, with the perfect crust and chew; inside, however, you’ll find one of the lightest bagels you may ever fall in love with. This is a bagel that will last on your counter for days.” ....
