Experiencing abnormally high SNR when reamping with IRs

Ben Asaro » Wed Apr 07, 2021 1:14 am
My apologies for the long post, but I m a bit baffled at the moment and would love to hear the input and suggestions from you lot.
Long story SHORT: I m getting abnormally high levels of noise when reamping guitar and lap steel parts using IRs.
Long story LONG: The impulse responses are only for cabinet and microphone simulation, not the actual amplifiers.
MY SIGNAL CHAIN. DI recorded guitar, -14dBFS average peak level > line out from a Scarlett 18i20 > Radial PRO RMP (attenuation at about 1/2) > guitar amp input
A word about the guitar amps I am using: One amp is a Lil Dawg Champster, a tweed Champ clone as a stand alone 5W guitar head. The other amp is an EAST Amplification Studio 2 2W head from legendary amp builder Jeff Bober. Both are wonderful amps with very different designs and sound, and both amps were re-valved less than a year ago. ....
