Even for the Best Nonprofits To Work For, 2020 was a difficult year. The United States Tennis Association Mid-Atlantic Section (USTA MAS) rarely has any voluntary turnover among its 21 employees. But like at many nonprofits, the pandemic forced difficult decisions. The organization laid off about one-third of its staff in July. It was among 10 of the 2021 Best Nonprofits To Work For that reported laying off or furloughing staff last year.

OVERVIEW: Reporting directly to the Chief Diversity Equity and Inclusion Officer, the DEI Manager will serve as the team’s internal project manager for multiple, simultaneous workstreams.   The team has primary ownership of both strategy and implementation for increasing organizational capacity for DEI among staff, alumni, external partners and ensuring our program delivery and outcomes are equitable and inclusive. This role will work closely with Human Resources, Learning, National Events, Exec Ops, IT, and Marketing; and a have an ability to engage with various other functions to drive DEI priorities throughout Year Up. A Benton Harbor-based workforce and economic development nonprofit was included on a list of the best nonprofit employers in the U.S.
The NonProfit Times on Monday published its list of the 2021 Best Nonprofits To Work For, and Benton Harbor-based Kinexus Group was ranked No. 39 on the list. It was the only West Michigan-based nonprofit among the 50 organizations mentioned. This is Kinexus Groupâs fifth year in a row on the list.

Large Nonprofits: Staff Want To Better Trust Managers, But Love The Work, Mission

Old movie buffs might remember the 1967 film Up The Down Staircase with Sandy Dennis playing a school teacher on her first assignment. Staff at the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) in Jacksonville, Fla., don’t need the reminder. One-way staircases are part of the COVID-19 protocol.
Getting staff back in the office or making sure remote operations go off without a hitch is central to what’s going on in the organizations that make up the Best Nonprofits large category of 250 or more employees.
Like everything else, COVID-19 has had a transformative impact on WWP (No. 34 overall and No. 6 in the large category) and the other organizations in the category. The challenge is that organizations such as WWP and Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina are direct service providers and need to be face-to-face.
