Representatives from the local Christian, Muslim, Jewish and Buddhist communities as well as community leaders from non-religious groups will attend the events held over two days. On Saturday, the Eve of ANZAC Day, an event on the theme Celebrating our Diversity and our Commitment to Peace will see a gathering to remember war and to promote a violence-free future locally and globally. ....

Lismore s ex-Mayor Jenny Dowell, patron of organising group Remembering and Healing (RaH), invited the community to attend. This is an annual opportunity to gather to reflect on our personal role in promoting peace, she said. Through the sharing of beliefs and experiences, we can appreciate the common humanity that unites us and the diversity that makes us a rich interesting community where everyone belongs. The first event will be held on the eve of the ANZAC Day Gathering, on April 24 from 5pm at Lismore Anglican Church St Andrew s, with a theme Celebrating our Diversity and our Commitment to Peace. ....

As they drew up to the burning home in Broadstone Way, Holme Wood, in the early hours of April 8, 2003, the fire could be seen through the early morning dark skies. Looking back on the incident at a later point, David Swales, Bradford’s station officer at the time, said as they approached the semi-detached house he could see a large black column of smoke emerging from the roof tops. ....
