Sweetens Cove: Andy Roddick and Peyton Manning s bourbon now in Texas

Austin 360 Like all good drinking stories, this one involves a traveling circus, a champion tennis player and the capital of Texas.  Well. Maybe all tales don t have those things, but they should.  Drinkers hip to the whiskey world might have heard of Sweetens Cove, the Tennessee bourbon brand named after a golf course near Chattanooga and Nashville. It’s booze with a big-name backer in Peyton Manning, but it’s also one with deep Austin ties. The other owners include tennis hall-of-famer Andy Roddick, Tiff’s Treats co-founder Leon Chen, Kendra Scott CEO Tom Nolan, Silicon Labs chairman Nav Sooch and real estate developer Mark Rivers  Austinites all. (Nashville musician Drew Holcomb also is on board.) And trailblazing distiller Marianne Eaves blended the company’s second release while living in a trailer in Buda and working out of Austin proper.

Austin s Waterloo Sparkling Water jumping into Walgreens, CVS and more

Nine months after being acquired by a New York private equity firm, Waterloo Sparkling Water is making a splash at thousands of new stores. The Austin-based maker of carbonated water is adding 3,000 stores to its distribution, which brings its reach to 15,500 locations in all 50 states. April and May is when (retailers) have reviews and schedule what will go into their stores, and we re always very humbled every time we get chosen, said Waterloo CEO Jason Shiver. We re growing so fast at Target that they ve decided to double our shelf presence. In addition to expansion at Target, Waterloo is adding shelf space at Costco, Albertsons/Safeway, Meijer and Stop & Shop. It s also breaking into the drugstore market through Walgreens and CVS.

Austin 360 Simi Estiatorio, the seafood-centric Greek restaurant long planned to open in the Littlefield Building downtown, will officially open on May 7. The restaurant from George Theodosiou, a 25-year service industry veteran with experience in both Greece and New York City, and executive chef Diego Sanchez will feature grilled octopus, skewered scallops, grilled sardines, marinated swordfish, seafood orzo, lamb chops and more at 601 Congress Ave. for dinner daily. Customers can also order Greek salads and shrimp, lobster and oysters from the raw bar, and some of the dishes nod to Sanchez s Peruvian roots. The restaurant, named for an island in eastern Greece, was originally announced in late 2019, with the opening delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
