· Demands audit of $30m Safe School Initiative Gboyega Akinsanmi No fewer than 939 students have been kidnapped from different secondary schools and tertiary institutions across the federation between December 2020 and May 2021, a new survey that tracks kidnapping incidents in schools has revealed. With the rising incidents of students’ abduction, Global Rights, a Washington-based human rights organisation, asked the federal government to audit the Safe School Initiative, a $30 million project initiated under the Goodluck Jonathan administration to protect schools nationwide. The organisation yesterday released the report of its study to THISDAY, graphically showing the trajectory of mass abduction that occurred in secondary schools and tertiary institutions from December 2020 and May 2021. ....

Daily Post Nigeria Published Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has called on the National Assembly to accede to the request of the indigenous peoples of Borno and create a Savannah State for them. HURIWA said it has convinced by the 9th Assembly, especially its efforts to carry out fundamental amendments of the Grund Norm to meet the aspirations of Nigerians of the 21st century and beyond HURIWA made the call in a town hall parley with the media and civil society organizations on Tuesday, where the activists, led by Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, said they have studied the presentation made by the indigenous people of Borno to the National Assembly and are convinced beyond the shadows of doubt that creating a Savannah State will add a greater economic boost to the National economy. ....
By Joseph Erunke ABUJA– MINISTER of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development,Sadiya Umar Farouq,has reassured of government’s determination to rescue Chibok girls from their abductors, insisting that contrary to beliefs in some quarters that no action was being taken by the federal administration,it was determined to get the girls out of captivity. Farouq said the federal government was working tirelessly to secure the release of the remaining Chibok girls who were abducted seven years ago. A statement to this effect, Wednesday,by the minister’s Special Assistant on Media, Nneka Ikem Anibeze,said:”The minister made the remark while remembering sad incident of the abduction of hundreds of girls from Chibok Local Government Area in Borno State.” ....
