Trade bodies reject Sindh government's move to increase minimum wage

KCCI-karachi-chamber-of-commerce-IndustryTrade bodies including the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) have rejected the Sindh government’s move to increase minimum wages by 43 percent and called it an unconstitutional step with negative consequences.
The KCCI issued a statement here and said industries of Sindh particularly of Karachi were highly aggrieved and perturbed by the Sindh government’s move to increase the minimum wage from Rs17,500 to Rs25,000 without following due process of law and contrary to the provisions of Sindh Minimum Wage Act 2015 and ILO’s minimum wages fixation convention 1970.
The increase in the minimum wage would make industries of Sindh uncompetitive and unviable to operate, not locally but also globally, it stated, adding that minimum wage in the centre and Punjab was Rs20,000 while in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan it was Rs21,000 and the minimum wages fixed by Sindh were not equita ....

According to a press report, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is looking forward to continuing discussions with the Pakistani authorities on the set of policies and reforms that could form the basis for completion of the sixth review under the $6-billion Extended Fund Facility (EFF). This was stated by the IMF resident representative, Ms. Teresa Dabán Sanchez in response to a query by an English daily. She further stated that “we welcome the strong and constructive engagement with the Pakistani authorities and we stand ready to continue supporting Pakistan to achieve the objectives of debt sustainability and strong and sustainable growth, through the implementation of the policies, structural reforms and social spending enhancement envisaged in the EFF-supporting program.” ....

Sindh cabinet approves plan to take over four KMC hospitals - Pakistan

KARACHI: The Sindh cabinet on Saturday approved an amendment in the police rules and handing over of four hospitals of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to the provincial health department.
Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah presided over a five-hour-long cabinet meeting and took important decisions including procurement of security featured number plates for vehicles and reduced cotton fee from Rs20 to Rs10 per 100kg.
The cabinet approved a proposal to take over four KMC hospitals Gizri Maternity Hospital, Sobhraj Maternity Hospital, Gazdarabad General Hospital in district South and Landhi Medical Complex in district Korangi along with their staff and hand them over to the Sindh health department. ....
