KARACHI: The local administration of the city informed the Sindh High Court on Thursday that a meeting with all stakeholders would be held on June 22 to determine the price of fresh milk or to establish milk markets to fix milk price daily through open auction.
A report filed on behalf of the Karachi commissioner further said that the supply and prices department had been asked to conduct a survey about the cost of products, services and utilities required for the production of milk and also compare rates of other major cities before the meeting. ....

SHC reissues notice to retailers' body on pleas against hike in milk price - Newspaper

KARACHI: The city administration has sought time from the Sindh High Court to propose a mechanism to resolve a controversy regarding prices of fresh milk after taking all stakeholders on board.
A two-judge bench headed by Justice Mohammad Ali Mazhar reissued a notice to the All Karachi Milk Retailers Association with a direction to ensure the presence of its representative on June 10 along with its reply.
It also directed the additional commissioner to file a progress report about the mechanism of the milk price on the next hearing.
The bench was hearing a petition filed against provincial and local administration as well as the Sindh Food Authority (SFA) for not ensuring sale of fresh milk on notified prices in the provincial metropolis. ....

One of dairy farmers’ cartels in the city hiked the milk price by Rs46 per litre late on Monday. The farmers’ association demanded of Commissioner Karachi Navaid Ahmed to revise the milk price every four months as per a directive of the Sindh High Court.
The association asked to place a ban on the export of animal fodder and sign a free trade agreement with them to import animal fodder; otherwise, there would be a Rs15 price hike by the month of May. However, the price hike was rejected by the Milk Retailers Association, other associations of dairy farmers and the commissioner. Sindh Agriculture Supply and Prices Department on Monday issued a notification to all the divisional commissioners across the province to take against the abrupt price hike of fresh milk and violation of the notified milk price which is Rs94 per litre. ....
