Paderu MLA K. Bhagyalakshmi expressed concern over the growing plastic menace due to the increase in tourist footfall in the Agency areas of Visakhapatnam district and stressed on the need to take immediate measures for protection of the environment.
She was speaking at a meet organised by the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) to elicit opinions of various stakeholders over issues of sanitation and pollution at tourist spots in the Agency, at Lambasingi of Chintapalle mandal in Visakhapatnam district, on Wednesday. A number of tribals, managements of resorts, hotels and village volunteers attended the programme.
Ms. Bhagyalakshmi said that they were encouraging tourism in the region and taking all steps to provide amenities to the tourists. But several tourists were forgetting their responsibility to protect environment, she added. She said that steps should be taken to control plastic usage in the Agency and measures should ....

For the first time in this season, the temperature in Visakhapatnam Agency has come down below 5° Celsius. Chintapalle area in the district has recorded 4.5° Celsius in the early hours on Wednesday, according to Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS).
Officials assume that the temperature in Lambasingi should be between 3° and 3.5° Celsius.
According to AP CM Dashboard, while the temperature readings were taken at 7 p.m., Munchingputtu registered the least temperature of 11.67° Celsius in the State followed by Paderu at 12.50° Celsius. ....

VISAKHAPATNAM: Minimum temperatures have dropped across Andhra Pradesh on Monday. According to the Regional Agriculture Research Station (RARS), a minimum temperature of 5 degrees Celsius has been recorded at Lambasinghi. Chintapalle, where RARS is located, witnessed a low temperature of 6.5 degrees Celsius.
Since there is no weather station of India Meteorological Department (IMD) at Chintapalle, the Automatic Weather Station at RARS makes available temperatures in the area. RARS associate director G. Rama Rao said 6.5 degrees Celsius recorded at Chintapalle is the lowest this season. ....

AP explores options to end stalemate over UAE alumina refinery project

Visakhapatnam: After finding itself on a sticky wicket, the Andhra Pradesh Government is keen to find out a viable solution to operationalise an alumina project near here, seven years after it was completed with an investment of about Rs.6,000 crore.
The trigger for the exercise was the international arbitration raised by Ras-al-Khaimah Investment Authority (RAKIA) after the State Government led by Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy cancelled the bauxite supply agreement made by AP Mineral Development Corporation (APMDC). The erstwhile Telugu Desam Party Government of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had also announced not to allow bauxite mining in the forests of Eastern Ghats following protests by tribal and anti-mining activists. ....
