The short film, produced by Nighat Shah, seeks to investigate why there were 500 suicides in Chitral between 2007 and 2016.
Pakistan s serene mountains hide within them ghastly tales of individual struggle and loss and Nighat Shah, an investor turned filmmaker from Chitral, wants to talk about the rising and deeply concerning suicides in her home region.
On May 10, it was reported that three people decided to end their lives in Chitral in a single day. Two young women, aged 19 and 20, threw themselves into the Chitral River. In a separate incident, a 29-year-old-man stabbed himself to death.
Pakistan is home to approximately 200 million people, and despite having over 100 medical colleges in the country, there are only about 500 licensed psychiatrists and very few psychologists. CHITRAL:
At least three people lost their lives in suicide incidents in Upper Chitral over the past 24 hours.
Police told The Express Tribune that in Lon Gol village of Upper Chitral, two girls, who were cousins, ended their lives by jumping in Chitral River. The destitute girls have been identified as 20-year-old Gulfam Bibi and her 19-year-old cousin Rukhsana of Tereech Valley.
In a separate incident, a 29 year old man Khalil committed suicide by stabbing himself with a knife repeatedly in Sno Ghar village.
Chitral is notorious for a higher rate of suicide. One of the reasons of the suicide is low literacy rate, poverty as well as lack of job opportunities. Most of victims end their lives by jumping in the Chitral River which is equally notorious for taking lives. ....

Mismanagement mars Covid vaccination drive in Chitral - Pakistan

CHITRAL: Mismanagement and disorder was witnessed at the anti-corona vaccination centre established in the district headquarters hospital here the other day as hundreds of people were found struggling to reach the counter for vaccination.
Also, there is no separate desk for female visitors.
The elderly and women complained that all this happened due to mismanagement of the hospital administration which should have set up separate desks.
They regretted that the management had failed to make arrangements for the people to wait for their turn. They said the hospital had sufficient space, staff and vaccines, but it could not set up proper desks. ....
