THE Makran division holds strategic significance for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as it is home to Gwadar and its seaport. Despite its great importance, the division is not integrated with the national grid and receives no electricity produced in Pakistan. The entire division depends on Iranian electricity, rendering Iran the authority to cut off electricity at its own discretion.
Normally, Makran receives 125MW electricity from Iran which is further divided among its three districts: Gwadar, Turbat and Panjgur. This power supply is insufficient for even one of these districts. Hence, all the areas remain out of power for most parts of the day.

The Chitral Gol National Park holds great significance in Chitral. The national park is home to rare species like Kashmir markhor, ibex, snow leopard, lynx, ram chakor (partridge), pheasant, and a large variety of birds, and it also offers mesmerising and scenic landscape to visitors. Local and foreign tourists visit the park throughout the year in large numbers. However, the road that leads to the park is in a dilapidated condition. Unregulated local construction and encroachment, landslides, and poor water drainage systems have turned the road into a nuisance. Tourists find it nearly impossible to travel on the road especially at rush hour. The authorities haven’t carried out repair work to date.
The fallen white mulberry tree. Dawn
CHITRAL: The historical tree of white mulberry in Singoor village of Chitral town fell to the ground as strong winds continue to lash the valley for the last two days. The tree has already completed its physical age of 200 years.
Dwarfing all the trees in the village, it was known as boekan mrach (the mulberry of birds) and had attained the height of about 100 feet, covering a circular area of over 20 feet radius.
The area elders said that as per tradition and tales transmitted orally from the past, its sapling was planted during the rule of Muhtaram Shah Katur II (1792 to 1837), the 10th ruler of Katur dynasty.
