Solvang’s Independence Day Parade Bursts Fourth with Pride, Patriotism

Hundreds of people gathered in downtown Solvang on Sunday morning to celebrate the Fourth of July with the return of the annual parade sponsored by the Solvang Rotary Club.
“It’s very important to the community of Solvang and the citizens of this state that the Fourth of July is celebrated just like it was two years ago,” said Art Kaslow, the club’s president. “Very important that we don’t lose any of the traditions or celebrations.” ....

It’s okay to talk about what happened. Discussion is a good thing, and this is a “teaching opportunity.”
This is what SAU 9 school officials were stressing after a violent mob stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. Teachers knew students would have questions and concerns, and they were prepared to have that discussion with them.
“This was an opportunity to engage people in a respectful way and reassure them that they are safe in our schools,” Superintendent Kevin Richard said by phone on Friday. ....
