COLUMBIA FALLS â A non-profit based in Columbia Falls dedicated to developing and maintaining a network of community recreation trails is hosting their annual Brewfest July 10.
The Pints for Paths Brewfest hosted by Gateway to Glacier Trails will return to Heavenâs Peak Lodge in West Glacier after last yearâs event was canceled due to COVID-19.

A Lawrence man accused of stabbing another man for insulting him will stand trial on felony charges of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated burglary.
After hearing testimony during a preliminary hearing Thursday in Douglas County District Court, Judge Kay Huff bound Brian Samuel Stubbs, 24, over for trial on four charges. Along with the felony charges, Stubbs is facing the misdemeanor charges of criminal use of a weapon and obstruction. ....

Planning commissioners ask staff to look beyond easy

Commissioners asked city staff to look for alternative locations to fulfill housing opportunity requirements as outlined in the state mandated Regional Housing Needs Allocation (RHNA) in the latest round of the Housing Element update at the March 11 Galt Planning Commission meeting.
City staff and consultants Amy Yang and Rick Rust from Mintier Harnish met with the commission in February to give an overview of the state requirements for the Housing Element, which included providing zoning for 1,926 new housing units during the 2021-29 housing cycle. Of the nearly 2,000 new units, 404 need to be accessible to very low-income families, 243 for low income, 379 for moderate income and 900 for above moderate income. ....

SALEM, Ore. (AP) One of the most beloved destinations in Oregon looks a lot different following the blowup of the Beachie Creek Fire.
Large swaths of the 34,000-acre Opal Creek Wilderness and Recreation Area burned after historic winds turned a small fire into an inferno Labor Day night.
The fire destroyed the bridge over Henline Creek the main access point from Salem and Portland. It also killed many of the trees, including old-growth giants, on Henline Falls, Little North Santiam and Opal Creek trails and in the surrounding area. ....
