Astrophysicist Claims Living Above Ceres Would Be Better Than on Mars

When we think of humans colonizing another planet, we automatically think of Mars, but a new paper has suggested a completely different idea. Astrophysicist Pekka Janhunen from the Finnish Meteorological Institute in Helsinki has proposed that humans move to a gigantic floating habit that would hover above the dwarf planet Ceres.
In his paper, Janhunen described the settlement as being a “megasatellite” with thousands of cylindrical spacecrafts that would all be inside of a huge disk-shaped frame. Each of the cylindrical spacecrafts would hold as many as 57,000 people who would be able to survive because of an artificial atmosphere and Earth-like gravity caused by its rotation’s centrifugal force. The cylindrical habitats, which would measure approximately 6.2 miles in length with a 0.6 mile radius, would complete a full rotation every 66 seconds in order to maintain the Earth-like gravity. ....

A 'Megasatellite' Orbiting Ceres Would Make a Fine Home For Humans, Scientist Says

A Megasatellite Orbiting Ceres Would Make a Fine Home For Humans, Scientist Says
21 JANUARY 2021
Given all the logistics involved, it s unlikely that humanity will ever see our way outside the Solar System to colonise exoplanets. But the possibility of settling elsewhere inside the Solar System isn t so far-fetched.

NASA is planning an outpost on the Moon. Crewed missions to Mars aren t far off. Heck, we even already have humans living off-planet (albeit for temporary stints) on the International Space Station.
So is there anywhere else in the Solar System that humans could make our home? Well, according to physicist and astrobiologist Pekka Janhunen of the Finnish Meteorological Institute in Finland, dwarf planet Ceres isn t entirely implausible. ....

Ceres Fire Fighters Encourage First Responders to Get COVID-19 Vaccine

Months after a COVID-19 outbreak sickened 10 firefighters in Ceres, two firefighters a cancer survivor and a COVID-19 survivor shared their experiences about getting the vaccine.Battalion Chief Jeff Serpa said there was no hesitation, only determination when he decided to get the COVID-19 vaccine.“It was never, in my opinion, an option for myself to not get it, Serpa said.In a cellphone video he shared with KCRA 3, Serpa is seemingly at-ease as a nurse administers the vaccine, just weeks after he was sickened by the virus. “It was pretty bad. Having the severe body aches, the fever, chills, not having an appetite, Serpa recalled. “It’s definitely difficult. I would say the emotional side of it, the emotional side effects, are probably worse than the physical side effects.”Serpa is one of 10 Ceres firefighters who tested positive for COVID-19 back in November. Months later, he, along with eight other firefighters are now back at work.Ceres Fire Department Chief ....
