Moreover, bus terminals were also crowded as many people left for their hometowns to celebrate the Eid before the ban on public transport starts on Saturday. “All bazaars and shopping malls will remain closed from May 8 to 16 and we will strictly implement it,” Deputy Commissioner Anwarul Haq told Dawn. However, he said transporters arriving in the city on Friday would be allowed to go back to their home districts on Saturday. STAFF REPORTER GUWAHATI: The All Asom Goriya Yuba-Chatra Parishad (AAGYCP) announced three awards for the year 2020 on Saturday. While the Parishad is going to confer the Swahid Muzamil Haque Memorial Award on senior journalist Prasanta Rajguru, the Bag Hazarika Harmony Award goes to senior advocate Nekibur Zaman and Poet-writer M Ibrahim Ali Memorial Award goes to Nurul Haque. Apart from them, the Parishad is going to felicitate Sahil Hussain for constructing a mini Eiffel Tower that ensured him berths in India Book of Records and Asian Book of Records. Representative image JORHAT: Four persons, including a nine-year-old child and a woman of a picnic party, have drowned in the Brahmaputra at Baghmora, about 20 km from Jorhat town. Though the incident happened on Tuesday, their bodies were fished out on Wednesday. A joint team of NDRF and SDRF retieved the bodies and sent them to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH) for autopsy. District magistrate Jorhat Roshni Aparanji Korati has ordered a magisterial probe into the incident. “I have ordered an inquiry into the incident and entrusted circle officer of Jorhat West revenue circle to submit report within 15 days,” Korati said. ....
