Major haul: Lahan, illicit liquor seized from Tarn Taran villages

256 The material seized by cops after a search operation was launched against manufacturers of illicit liquor at Cheema Kalan & Shakri villages. Our Correspondent Tarn Taran, July 23 The Excise Department and the district police under Operation Red Rose, launched on the instructions of Rajat Aggarwal, Excise Commissioner, Punjab, conducted a special search operation against the manufacturing of illicit liquor at Cheema Kalan and Shakri villages here on Friday. Around 11,290 kg of lahan, 1,10,750 ml of illicit liquor and a working still were recovered from the spot. Excise Officer Navjot Bharti and DSP Iqbal Singh led the teams which consisted of 70 police personnel. Excise inspectors Amrik Singh, Parshotam Pathania and Jatinder Singh supervised the search operation.

Tarn Taran, July 22 Newly appointed PCC president Navjot Singh Sidhu on Thursday had to change his route in the wake of the farmers’ protest to reach Mehmoodpur village. As a result, Congress workers, who had lined up on roads for hours to welcome him here, had to return disappointed. Sidhu had to attend a function organised by Khemkaran MLA Sukhpal Singh Bhullar at his native Mehmoodpur village. As per the programme, he was to reach Mehmoodpur via Tarn Taran, Chabal, Sursingh, Bhikhwind, Algon Kothi, Amarkot, etc. However, his cavalcade took a detour through Patti, Valtoha and Amarkot to reach the village to avoid the farmers’ protest in the area. He reached there by about three hours late.
