For the first time we re getting a look at where health officials at the Minnesota Department of Health recently found clusters of COVID-19 cases in Carver County.
On Monday, MDH reported COVID cases growing rapidly in Carver County, about 35 miles southwest of Minneapolis. MDH says most of them are tied to school sports.  ....

Some Carver County schools, businesses reduce activities amid outbreak of COVID variant
The Minnesota Department of Health announced a rapidly growing outbreak on Friday.

The announcement Friday that Carver County is in the midst of an outbreak of the B.1.1.7 U.K. variant of COVID-19 has prompted some school districts and local businesses to pause certain activities.
The Minnesota Department of Health said COVID cases in the southwest metro county have risen 62% between Feb. 24 and Mar. 4 and that the outbreak was rapidly growing, with at least 68 cases linked to participants in school-sponsored and club sports activities.
These cases in turn have led to transmission at local gyms and fitness centers, prompting MDH to recommend a county-wide pause of youth sports for two weeks, as well as calling on school districts to consider pausing extracurricular activities, and for gyms to actively screen its employees and strictly enforce mask-wearing. ....

City raises taxes to $5.33 more monthly on median-valued home


The Chaska City Council approved the final 2021 tax levy and final budgets on Monday, raising taxes 6.94% from last year.
The 4-0 vote, with Councilor Mike Huang absent, will charge the median-valued home $5.33 more per month from 2020 to 2021. (The median home value went up 1.42% from $281,000 to $285,000 from 2020.)
That’s a $64 annual increase from 2020, from $808 to $872, according to city documents.

Next year’s General Fund Operating Budget is $20.1 million, with a $11.4 million levy.
That s $1.3 million more from 2020’s amended budget. It continues to put Chaska among the top 10 lowest levies among area cities,
City Administrator Matt Podhradsky said.
“This is one of the most challenging budgets that we’ve worked on,” Mayor Mark Windschitl said, noting the COVID-19 pandemic put a strain on nearly every aspect of it. ....
