MEXICALI BRIEFS: Four dead in accident


Four people died Sunday after a vehicle accident on the San Felipe Highway.
According to media reports, the incident occurred by the kilometer 152 mark, where a 2005 Jeep Liberty rolled over.
Those reported dead at the scene were a 10-month-old girl, Scarlett; a 4-year-old girl, Arianna Dayanne, and a 35-year-old man, Erick “Doe.” The fourth victim, Griselda “Doe,” 50, died en route to a San Felipe clinic.
Four other people were seriously injured.
 
Vaccination planned for people over 50
A state official said authorities plan to start vaccinating residents over 50 years of age for COVID.
State Secretary of Public Health Alonso Perez Rico said a request was made by Gov. Jaime Bonilla to the Mexican government in order to move forward with the next age group. ....

Grieving Family Says COVID-19 Victim's Body Was Misplaced


“[They] faxed the necessary information to the hospital for pickup. They went to pick him up, but he wasn’t there,” said Salvador Morales, Alonzo’s son. 
“They told us, ‘We went to go pick up your father-in-law. They said the National Guard picked him up. We’ve never heard of this. Was he in the military, a secret agent?’ I said no! He wasn’t, he’s just a mechanic,” said Marilyn Morales, Alonzo’s daughter-in-law.
Hospitals in Southern California have been overrun by a post-holiday surge of COVID-19 patients. Due to the COVID-19 crush, the National Guard is helping LA’s County Coroner with body transport and storage, but Alonzo s family says it took many calls to the hospital to learn about this.  ....

The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office has determined that the use of deadly force in the 2018 shooting of Salvador Morales by Pittsburg police officers was legally justified, following an investigation into the incident.
According to a report released by District Attorney Diana Becton’s office Monday, the five officers involved in the incident justifiably feared for their lives and acted in accordance with the law. ....
