Ian Blackford blasts Westminster as girls' education hit badly by foreign aid cuts

Blackford said educating girls saved lives and built stronger families, communities and economies.
“An educated female population increases a country’s productivity and fuels economic growth,” he said.

Imagine walking through a sandstorm and not being able to see. Your senses overwhelmed, your eyes gritty. Now imagine walking through a swarm of millions of flying desert locusts. It’s not a dissimilar experience. Totally overwhelming and disorientating. But when the sandstorm subsides, everything returns to normal. When the locust swarm moves on, utter devastation lies in its wake. Field after field of ravaged crops, as far as the eye can see.

There has been limited media coverage so it’s not surprising so many of us remain unaware of the humanitarian disaster in the making here. We’ve been pre-occupied with a global pandemic and the impact it ....
