The Georgia Department of Natural Resources has asked for more time to release an impending decision about a proposed spaceport in South Georgia’s Camden County, citing among other reasons, “the complexity of the proposed project.”
The state agency is required to review whether the proposal violates any Georgia laws protecting the coastal environment.
Camden County is proposing to build a commercial spaceport on the coast in Woodbine, Georgia, featuring a rocket launch trajectory over salt marsh and tidal waters, as well as the Cumberland Island National Seashore. A spaceport operator license would not allow the county to actually launch rockets; each launch would still require an additional federal license.
Jeff and Kathy Kirk are Kentucky natives who moved to Texas in 2006 for work. When it came time to retire, they were both ready to return home and they’re now living in The George at 42, a condominium building in East Louisville.
“Our daughter lives (in Louisville), and we kind of wanted to get back to Kentucky and the change of seasons,” Kathy said. “(She) actually saw an advertisement in the paper for The George and she said, ‘Mom, you need to come up here and look at this. I think you and dad might like a condominium. ”
After living in a house for so long, Kathy wasn’t sure a condo would be right for them; but once she and Jeff took a tour of the building, their decision was made. They snatched up two adjacent units just in time there is now only one more condo available for purchase.
